I believe yoga is for every body and that flexibility is a product of the practice, but definitely not a prerequisite.
My Story…..
I first practiced yoga in 1997, searching for something to help my mental health while studying at university. Whilst during those classes I was able to let stress & worries fall away (for 60+mins at least), I mostly enjoyed moving my body in interesting ways.
During a class, in 2000 I remember being overwhelmed by the feeling of complete love for my body, my Self. I was in awe of what I could do, how I could feel.
I felt I was wrapped in a warm embrace. It gave me such joy and relief to be free from the displeasure of my body (something I hadn’t ever experienced)
I stepped onto my mat, week after week, to escape the busyness and stress that was constantly building in my mind. Savasana was a struggle however I knew I felt better at the end of the practice - so every week it was worth the effort of showing up and finding out more.
Calming my mind would take another decade to discover.
After twelve years of being a student, the practice called me to move deeper. With 350hrs of study behind me, teaching became a natural progression. Eventually the opportunity to open a studio was a dream come true - an oasis for others to find themselves too.
My Dharma..
Over the years, the lessons I have learnt through my own personal struggles with self acceptance, perfectionism, extreme levels of stress and anxiety have become the motivating drive to share the practices of yoga and meditation with others.
I feel a strong pull towards helping other women find the freedom to embrace themselves, and make themselves a priority, unapologetically.
The eight limbs of yoga guide all who step onto this path, whether they begin with experiencing relief via the physical (asana) practice or are ready to dive into the terrain of the mind (meditation). Yoga becomes a way of living, taking the lessons learnt on the mat into daily life.
I am deeply compassionate and empathetic with my students. I practice what I preach, through my practice both on and off the mat. In this way I am able to display a great understanding of where people are arriving from, the obstacles they may experience along the way, and their deep desire for freedom of suffering and increased joy.
What lights me up?
Women coming together, showing up for themselves - bravely, authentically, open heartedly! I am passionate about creating a space for others to empower themselves through choice, drawing on inner strength and practicing acceptance of where they are in any given moment.
My offerings…
You will find the classes are thoughtfully created and sequenced, offering variations in poses to suit all levels of experience. Mindful movements connected with breath allow the student to stay tuned in to their experience ensuring they make compassionate and kind choices for their body at all times.
